About Jennifer

Holm Family

Growing up as the daughter of a teacher, there were many nights at the family’s dining room table where Jennifer did homework and her mother graded papers. She has direct experience with how hard teachers and support staff work, long after the classroom doors are closed, and well before they open again. She was raised with the idea that education is a critical component of democracy, and is firmly committed to supporting our public schools as a pathway to a society of fully-participating members.

Jennifer has been an Aptos resident for over 15 years, since she and her husband Stephen purchased their Rio Del Mar home. Jennifer and Stephen’s three children have all attended PVUSD schools. By the time Griffin, their youngest, finishes elementary school, they will have been Rio Del Mar Elementary parents for 17 years, and by the time he graduates high school, they will have been PVUSD parents for 23 years. Jason and Aerin, their older two children, will attend Cabrillo College in the Fall.

Jennifer’s original work was in Internet development and design, but left that career in 2003 when she started nursing school. She graduated Cabrillo College’s Nursing Program in 2005, and has gone on to achieve a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and then a Master of Science in Nursing Education. She works as a staff nurse at Watsonville Community Hospital in the Intensive Care Nursery, and as a clinical nursing instructor for Cabrillo College.

Jennifer serves as a delegate to the Monterey Bay Central Labor Council, which represents the interests of working people throughout the Monterey Bay area. As a representative for the nurses’ union, she has participated in contract negotiations and, with her bargaining team, was instrumental in achieving a fair and equitable contract between the nurses and Watsonville Community Hospital.

Jennifer is also proud to serve as a board member for the California Nurses Association, an organization that advocates on a national scale for working conditions that support high-quality and safe patient care. Through her work with the organization, Jennifer has had an opportunity to meet with local, state and federal legislators to discuss issues and measures that benefit the community, from access to healthcare and on through environmental wellness.
